Repair Services & Tips

Our service department is on-site and Bob, our technician is a Bernina & Elna certified and trained technician.

We want your sewing, embroidery, and/or serger machines to be in their top working condition.  We encourage you to bring your machine in at least once a year for a "well baby" check-up.

We service Bernina & Elna as well as other makes of machines.  When bringing your machine in for service,
Bob asks that you bring the following with you.

  • Your machine, power cord, foot control and bobbin case.
  • #1 foot that comes with your machine.
  • The buttonhole foot, and/or automatic buttonhole foot that came with your machine.
  • If you have a Bernina 1630, 180, 185, 200, 730, 830 or 820 bring the #40 foot that came with your machine.
  • Your embroidery unit, embroidery foot and embroidery bobbin case if appropriate.
  • The large embroidery hoop.
  • We recommend using metrosene plus thread. If you use another type of thread exclusively, please bring a spool of the thread in a contrasting color and a full bobbin wound with white thread.
  • If you are having a problem of any type, please bring a sample.
  • Although not required, it is a big help and time saver if you have a full bobbin wound with white metrosene plus and a piece of fabric and stabilizer in the hoop and ready to do a stitch out.

Tips from Bob

  • SURGE PROTECTORS ARE A MUST FOR ALL COMPUTER MACHINES! We recommend protection of at least 1000 joules.

  • We do not recommend sewing over pins. You risk breaking a needle, which could fly in your face or cause a burr on the hook. If you have a broken needle, be sure to find and remove all broken pieces.
  • Change your needle and oil the hook every 3-4 sewing hours. Do not use a dull or damaged needle.
  • If your needle gets jammed in your fabric, turn off your machine, and remove the needle from the needle bar. Do not use the hand wheel to pry the needle out. It may negatively affect the timing of your machine or damage the hook of your machine.
  • Remember to remove the throat plate and clean the lint from the feed dogs and bobbin case area after each project.  Do not use canned air to clean out the hook area of your machine. Lint flies up and may damage the computer boards.
  • Never use abrasives on the body of the machine or on the touch screen. Any type of mild cleaning agent, such as Formula 409, should be sprayed onto a cloth and then applied to the body of the machine. Never use acetone, mineral spirits, or harsh chemicals.
