Bali Sea Star Quilt
If you've fallen in love with
Bali Pops or Tonga Treats Strips and didn't know what to do with them, here is
the perfect solution. We will be making the gorgeous cover quilt featured on the
book "Scrap-Basket Surprises" by Kim Brackett. "Bali Sea Star" is cleverly
pieced and based on 2 ½" strips!! To make just the center star blocks as shown,
you need one Bali Pop or Tonga Treat Strips (40 - 2 ½" wide strips) and 2 ½ yds
background. To make the border as shown, you need 1 1/8 yd for the inner border
and 11 more 2 ½ " strips OR you could just pick a beautiful fabric for the outer
border. The current quilt is 4 blocks by 5 blocks (20 blocks ~60"x72") but if
you wanted it bigger, add 2 more columns of 5 blocks to make it 5 blocks by 6
blocks (30 blocks ~72"x84"). Since each block uses 2 strips, you would need 60
strips instead of the 40 for the sample size. So if you used 2 Bali Pops/Tonga
Treats Strips, you would have 60 strips for the star blocks and 20 strips left
to do the outside border - sounds perfect to me!! Must also buy the book, but
this is a rich book with many other patterns you will want to use. (Sewing
machine required) Advanced beginner level.
